Our Story

Founded by Siamese students in 1993, Ruam Thai has grown into an annual camp that brings Siamese youth together through education, culture, and religion.

How Ruam Thai Was Founded

In 1993, a group of Siamese students from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) gathered to organize a gathering to promote community service and friendship among fellow Siamese from higher education institutions in Malaysia.

The regular gathering and visits to successful alumni in Kedah, mainly to foster mentorship and networking opportunities, inspired them to contribute to community development through education-focused initiatives.

The founding goal was to inspire and empower the Siamese community, ensuring equal standing with other communities in Malaysia.

At the time, students often visited senior alumni around Kedah and met at Wat Teluk Wanjah. These connections and suggestions from seniors encouraged the idea of a motivation seminar for Siamese students, with early funding from nearby wats and personal scholarships.

How it began:

  • Initial planning at a student's house.
  • Funding was gathered from committee's personal scholarship and donations from wat (temples) and communities.
  • A dedicated committee was formed to oversee and execute the project.

Goal of the Seminar:

  • Raise awareness: Highlight the importance of education for self-improvement and community progress.
  • Motivate participants: Help attendees understand their current position and guide them to set and achieve future goals.
  • Equal opportunities: Strive for the Siamese community to achieve parity with other Malaysian communities.
